The Real Cost of Using a Free Notion Template

Free templates often come with hidden costs: poor structure, no support, and time wasted fixing them. Here's what to watch for.

We've all been there: you find a beautiful free Notion template on Twitter, duplicate it, and then spend an hour trying to figure out why the formulas don't work or the linked databases are broken. Free templates can be a great starting point, but they often come with hidden costs.

The first cost is time. Many free templates aren't tested thoroughly. You might discover broken links, missing properties, or inconsistent formatting. Fixing those issues can take longer than building your own system from scratch. The second cost is lack of support. When you get stuck, there's no one to ask. The third is outdated design: free templates rarely get updated, so you're stuck with whatever quirks the original creator left behind.

That's not to say all free templates are bad. But if you value your time, consider investing in a paid template that's tested, supported, and updated. You'll save money in the long run — not because the template is cheaper, but because your time is worth something.
